Persicaria is primarily a foliage specimen plant, with striking lance-shaped tricolor leaves with purplish edges, a green chevron highlight, and a dark purple center. The somewhat insignificant, small white flowers appear in midsummer. β€˜Red Dragon’ forms compact clumps that will slowly get larger each season. Persicaria is certainly hardy to hardiness zone 5 as it has survived in our garden for many, many seasons. Deer occasionally browse Persicaria, so precautions to prevent browsing are warranted.
