Heuchera 'Mega Caramel'

Heucheras comprise a diverse number of highly hybridized cultivars of striking foliage plants. Heucheras all sport tiny white, pink, or red bellflowers that float on dainty stalks above the basal foliage. However, Heucheras are primarily grown in the garden for their foliage, which varies from inky black to bright yellow, solid to highly veined. Heucheras are easy to grow, are fairly tolerant of moisture if they don’t dry out too long. Heucheras are shallow-rooted, and are prone to frost-heaving over the winter. The main cause of plant loss is the heaving of the root ball completely out of the soil over the winter and early spring months. Heucheras do spread slowly, and also prolifically self-seed, but do not always come true to seed, and will avidly hybridize in your garden if you have more than one variety. (We’ve created some of our own mongrel Heucheras this way.)

‘Mega Caramel’ is a stunning super-size Heuchera with enormous rosy-green caramel-colored leaves. Flowers are pink. We saw this one at a nearby garden plant store and knew we had to find a place for it in the garden. It has overwintered well and earned a permanent place in the garden.
