Hemerocallis comprises a diverse number of highly hybridized cultivars of plants that have long, spear- or grass-like arching foliage, and sturdy stems on which multiple trumpet-like blossoms form, each lasting only one day before shriveling. Deer will eat both the foliage and the blossoms of Hemerocallis unless provided protection.

‘Stella d’ Oro’ is a smaller variety suitable for the front of the bed. It features small yellow flowers with ruffled edges. It has an unusually long blooming period, beginning in July.
