Hemerocallis comprises a diverse number of highly hybridized cultivars of plants that have long, spear- or grass-like arching foliage, and sturdy stems on which multiple trumpet-like blossoms form, each lasting only one day before shriveling. Deer will eat both the foliage and the blossoms of Hemerocallis unless provided protection.

‘Magic Dawn’ is a larger variety suitable for the back of the bed. It has a large blossom with alternating predominantly red and yellow petals. The red petals have a yellow stripe down the middle.
