Astrantia has finely cut foliage that is covered with pincushion-like flowers from June-July. Astrantia will over time form large stands or clumps. There are many cultivars featuring different color blossoms. ’Buckland’ has white or pale pink flowers; ‘Claret’ has red flowers; ‘Hadspen Blood’ is a fetching dark red. Astrantia will slowly spread as a neat clump. Seedlings will not come true to the parents, and typically have pale or white, nondescript blossoms. Deer have never bothered our Astrantia.
